Interview with Carolynne - 16th October 2003.

Time: 8pm (roughly)Phone Interview.

Carolynne's location : In a taxi, then on a street corner ( don't ask! lol)

Sarah :Did you see many of the questions on the site?
Carolynne:Not many coz there's so much stuff to look at, it's just a really really good site! I can't believe there was a picture of when I was at school!!

Sarah: Do you mind it being on there?
Carolynne: (laughs) no, no don't worry bout it, it's cool!

Sarah: Was there a person who persuaded you to do Fame Academy?
Carolynne; Yeah there was, that was my publisher Lee. He signed me to BMG as a songwriter in December last year. He was one of the people who really believed in me first, and since I signed that I had been working towards developing myself. He thought it was a good idea because he just believed that if I stood on that stage and sung then lots of people would hear and take notice. So he was the one who suggested it to me….. he didn't convince me or anything, he just said ya know this would be a good idea.

Sarah: Bet your glad you did go in for it now?
Carolynne: Oh yeah (laughs)

Sarah: Would you say that (Fame Academy) was the best experience you've had?
Carolynne: That was one of the best experiences I've had in my life but you know it's only 10 weeks, and also I have been working for it for six years. It's probably, er, not the most prominent experience, as I moved away from home when I was 17, no 18, and I've dealt with worse things than that. You know my mum and dad have really helped me, our family hasn't got a lot of money or anything so it's not been easy. Also ya know I've been working hard to get my publishing deal, so this is only 10 weeks out of 6 years, but it definitely helped me.

Sarah: If you hadn't have gone in for Fame Academy or it didn't exist would you have entered Pop Idol?
Carolynne: Erm, probably not no, I think they take the mickey out of everybody.

Sarah: Is there going to be a fame academy tour?
Carolynne; I don't know ya know, we haven't heard anything. We'd be the last ones to know as well!! But I'm not sure.

Sarah: What venue would you most like to play at?
Carolynne: Manchester….. it's near home!

Sarah: What was your fave night out when you were in the academy?
Carolynne: Fave night out……urm……hm that's a tough one. They were all good but I liked.. well it wasn't a night out, but the gig in Manchester that was good. I just loved being able to see all those people, ya know especially all the Northern voices (laughs) that was wicked. I liked the first premiere I went to with Louise because that was the first ever taste we got of people saying "Good luck".
Sarah: Bet that felt mad?
Carolynne: Yeah I wasn't expecting that at all!!

Sarah: Who would you have loved to have done a master class?
Carolynne: aw, I would love to have done a master class with Shania Twain, or her husband
Sarah: She was on it last year!
Carolynne: I know, I know, I missed out on that one!

Sarah: This is from Mike… Would you ever date a fan? I think he is hinting at something……
Carolynne: (laughs) Well, I'm not ruling anything out because ya know all my boyfriends have been people that I have got to know, so ya never know!!
(starts giggling)

Sarah: How do you get the inspiration to write songs?
Carolynne: All the songs I write for me are really personal. There's always a story and they are always about someone or something. So I get my inspiration from everything, ya know there's always been something. I've never been very lucky in love, so I've always had something sad to write about…..
Sarah: aww
Carolynne: (laughs) Well, not something sad but just ya know….
Sarah: Something emotional
Carolynne: Yeah really emotional songs. When I write a song it sorts it out in my head for me as well. I kinda sit back and go "Phew". So it's really my way of expressing how I feel.

Sarah: There was one, was it called "Happy Ending"?
Carolynne: "Fate" yeah.
Sarah: I loved that
Carolynne: Did ya? I'm recording that next week!!
Sarah: Are you going to release it?
Carolynne: I don't know what one I'm going to release. I think I'm going back to Sweden for a bit.
Sarah: Insane is great
Carolynne: Yeah that's a good one, I recorded that yesterday. I did another today called…urm, "Someone". One of my fave ones is "Typical Me". Have you heard that?
Sarah: Yeah I really like that one!
Carolynne: Yeah I like it. Some of the ones I'm doing have been really rocky. Been jumping round the studio going "yeeah" (laughs) it's a bit mad!

Sarah: Have you got a deal yet?
Carolynne: Urm, I'm in talks but I'm still working towards my album. But ya know a deal isn't the be all and end all, it's gotta be the right one. You gotta have the songs there ready for them to put out. I'm with Safe Management, Chris Herbet. I'm doing lots of stuff, I'm fronting an anti-bullying campaign….

Sarah: Oh I had a question about that actually
Carolynne: That's cool! Well I'm gonna be going around schools and talking to kids that have been bullied and that coz I got bullied at school…..
Sarah: No, it's not nice is it?
Carolynne: No it's not. Well, what else, I'm doing…I'm doing some stuff for breast cancer. I've got a few things this week I'm doing, like fashion shows. I'm doing Nicki Chapmans tv show next Friday. Dya know what that is I don't know what it is? I'm doing the full version of "Underneath your clothes" on that.
Sarah: Is it on sky?
Carolynne: No, it's on proper telly I think
Sarah: I think it's a morning show…
Carolynne: Yeah I think it might be. Oh goodness I've got the Leeds United and Man United football match on Satuday!!!
Sarah: (laughs)
Carolynne: (laughing) oooh. I'll have to do the penalty shoot out at half time (laughs) My dad is like "Ooh god you're gonna kick a ball" (giggles) Oh dear….that should be fun. Bit nervous bout that coz I know some people there.

Sarah: Have people you've known before treated you differently since you've come out of Fame Academy?
Carolynne: Urm…. Not the people that are important to me no
Sarah: Have you had people that didn't like you before but now want to be your friend?
Carolynne: I've had a few people, but I've only had a few people I've been really close to in my life anyway. I've always been the kind of person who, has not trusted too many people. I've had lots of friends but only a handful of really true friends. I went through a lot of that when I was younger, so I pick my friends carefully. People….you know you have gotta give them the benefit of the doubt, and it's been ok so far.

Sarah: Ok, this is a funny question everyone wanted me to ask you…..
Carolynne: (laughing) Ok, go ahead.
Sarah: The Pigeons and Chickens…..
Carolynne: (laughs for ages). The pigeons and chickens…..(giggles) ok…..argggh (laughs)
Sarah: Go on (laughs) You cant tell me?
Carolynne: (laughs) Only coz if I did Alex would absolutely kill me! She would kill me. I spoke to her today, she's had flu and (laughs) a funny eye…..but she's ok now! Pigeons and chickens…….haha (carries on giggling!)
Sarah: Here is a funny one…. Apart from chocolate and chickens what do you really crave?
Carolynne: (gives a big laugh) Well can I just say that I do not in any way crave chickens at all…..at all….I really really have gone off chickens!! I crave affection. Some people I really shy away from and don't give lots of cuddles, but other people I really love and cuddle lots.

Sarah: If you could duet with anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Carolynne: Urm, Bono….. or Shania Twain.
Sarah: Bono?
Carolynne: Yeah. My mum thinks he is a bit affected but I think he has got a really sexy voice.

Sarah: What makes you angry
Carolynne: (straight away) Bullies!!!! And erm, I tell you what makes me angry, when shop keepers put change on top of note. Also dogs that sniff your privates, they make me soo mad!! (laughs) Yeah that makes me mad (giggles) Also anyone that says anything to offend my friends or family. They can say what they want about me but if they say anything bad about them that makes me mad. I can take the "I'm the root of all evil" ( a post by some plonker on the official FA msg board) (laughs)

Sarah: Who's the rudest celeb you've met?
Carolynne: Daniel Beddingfield
Sarah: Oh, coz of how he treated Alistair on the final?
Carolynne: Yeah I just thought it was bang out of order and what an absolute idiot!!! I mean there is just no need for it. Whether you like Alistair or not, everyone knows that was bang out of order.
Sarah: It was really bad
Carolynne: Yeah and also can I just say Phil from Eastenders is a horrible horrible man. He was extremely rude to my nanna.
Sarah: Aw really?
Carolynne: She is the loveliest lady in the world and she went up to talk to him. She said " hello nice to meet you, did you see my granddaughter sing" Coz he was at the final show, and he just pulled his jumper over his head and shook his head and said "Go away"
Sarah: That's awful!!
Carolynne: Very very rude man.

Sarah: Next question is, How many hats have you got?
Carolynne: ooh I don't know, not as many as I have got trainers (laughs) I've got loadsa hats. I love em! I've got too many . I keep finding them stuffed under pillows and stuff!!

Sarah: If you could endorse any product or company what would it be?
Carolynne: Urm…..hmm…..probably something for hair. I wouldn't mind doing a Loreal "because Im worth it" advert (laughs loudly) Flicking my hair about! It would probably be one of those flicking my hair in someones eye or something!!!

Sarah: This is from a guy called Peter…
Carolynne: (laughs)
Sarah: Oh, not that Peter!!
Carolynne: (giggles)
Sarah: Who would be your ideal date?
Carolynne: Ideal date…..kind considerate and funny. I don't like these boys who are too wrapped up in themselves.But definitely got to be considerate. Ya know quite funny and everything, they gotta be my friend as well…………Oh and a tight bum don't go a miss as well!!! Haha (laughs) I don't mind him having a tight bum!!
Sarah: (laughing) Ok, what's your favourite film?
Carolynne: Fave film…….oh this is really sad… you know "Never Ending Story"? I love that!!
Sarah: You know the creature in it that flies?
Carolynne: The luck dragon
Sarah: Yeah, everyone always says my dog looks like that
Carolynne: awwwwwww. Falcore he is called
Sarah: that's it
Carolynne: aww you have a dog called Falcore?
Sarah: No he's not called that
Carolynne: Oooh he should be!! (laughs) Yeah call him Falcore!!!

Sarah: How did you discover Matchbox 20 and what is your fave track of theirs?
Carolynne: My flatmate introduced me to Matchbox 20, and er my fave track is called, it's on the….cant remember what album it's on, but it's called "Leave". It's my best song, it's lovely.

(Carolynne then has to end the call because she has to get out of taxi, but calls back 3 mins later)

Sarah: Ok, here are some one word answer questions..
Carolynne: Ok
Sarah: Marmite - Love or Hate?
Carolynne: Oooh hate it!!
Sarah: Curry or chines?
Carolynne: Oh, chinese!
Sarah: Louise or Alex?
Carolynne: ahhhh, oh, oh I don't know (laughs) Have I got to choose one?
Sarah: You don't have to
Carolynne: Ok then, both. I love them both for different reasons!
Sarah: Fame or Fortune?
Carolynne: ooh, erm, arrgh (stumbles for ages and laugh) erm. Well I'd rather be famous for doing something I love that just have money
Sarah: Tattoos or piercings?
Carolynne: Piercings coz I haven't got any tattoos.
Sarah: Would you want any tattoos?
Carolynne: Urm, I wouldn't want to have one that everybody had, so I'd have to have it somewhere secret and discrete. It would have to be something special. I wouldn't just get one for the sake of getting a tattoo.
Sarah: Clubs or pubs?
Carolynne: Bars! (laughs) Clubs if I had to pick!
Sarah: Blonde or Brunette?
Carolynne: Brunettes, coz they definitely have more fun!! (giggles)
Sarah: Hats or shoes?
Carolynne: (gasps) Oh what? That's the toughest one yet!!! (laughs) Oh, hats.
Sarah: Carrie or David?
Carolynne: Carrie
Sarah: Day or night?
Carolynne: Night
Sarah: Yorkshire pudding or Jellied Eels?
Carolynne: Ooh Yorkshire pudding!!!

Sarah: If you're life was a musical which one would it be?
Carolynne: Starlight express coz of the rollerboots! (laughs)
Sarah: Have you seen it?
Carolynne: I saw it a while ago yeah but I nearly fell asleep coz I was knackered!! (laughs) What a waste of 50 quid!!!! But never mind! (giggles)
Sarah: Which celeb would you love to be stuck in a lift with?
Carolynne: Jude Law.

( we chat about some fundraising email someone sent me to give to her. I wont type all that out!)

Sarah: Right, is there a contact address yet that fans can write to you at?
Carolynne: There will be soon, I think we are gonna get a P.O Box or something. I'm not sure, but watch this space. I will let you know and everything!

Sarah: What popstars around at the moment do you think need a stint in the Fame Academy?
Carolynne: A few of them!! Urm, who's around at the moment….let me think….
Sarah: Cheeky girls!!
Carolynne: Yes the Cheeky girls! They should get in there and don't come back out I think!!! (laughs) No.
Everyone who's been on pop idol should have a go in Fame Academy, it's harder than it looks!

Sarah: What is your worst song ever?
Carolynne: That I've written?
Sarah: Not sure actually. The person didn't state what they meant
Carolynne: Oh worst song in the show was "Guilty"
Sarah: Yeh you didn't like doing that did you!?
Carolynne: Noo. I wasn't feeling that, as Paris would say!! (giggles)

Sarah: Peter ( a fan) says he felt you really connected with the songs you sang on the show, which one did you most connect with and why?
Carolynne: "Underneath your Clothes" I felt really connected with that coz I knew what I was singing about and if I feel like I wrote the the song then I connected with it the most.
Also I really loved singing "I drove All night".
Sarah: That was a great one for you to sing!
arolynneC: Yeah I liked that.
Sarah: I thought you sang the best on the final show
Carolynne: Did ya? Yeah I felt like it wasn't the best vocal or anything. I felt like I didn't give a monkeys and I knew I was third so I felt "oh well"
Sarah: You seemed really into the performance!
Carolynne: Yeah it was good

( I suddenly cant find my other sheet of questions! lol)

Sarah: This is very professional isnt it? (laughs)
Carolynne: (laughing) it doesn't matter. (jokingly) Yeah get your act together love! (laughs) only joking

Sarah:If you could have been part of any group past or present which one would it be?
Carolynne: Urm….any group…..urm I don't know. If I wanted to be a member of any serious group I would like to be a member of Fleetwood Mac coz they have some wicked songs. But I wouldn't mind seeing what it was like to be a Spice Girl!!
Sarah: That would have been mad!
Carolynne: Yeah! If I was one I don't know who I would have been. What one do you reckon?
S: Urm…I don't know…. (thinks)
Carolynne: If you say scary spice I will go mad! (laughs)
Sarah: Ok I wont say scary!
Carolynne: (laughing) Posh Spice, don't say that either!!
Sarah: What one then? (laughs)
Carolynne: Yeah what one do I wanna be!
Sarah: Ok, I'll say you'd be sporty spice then!
Carolynne: Yeah! Well I wouldn't be any of them really! (giggles)
Sarah: You'd be the one with the best voice!!!
Carolynne: Aw thank you! That would be Posh Spice then! (laughing) Ooh I shouldn't say that should I?!

Sarah: Nick says If he were to buy you a drink what would it be?
Carolynne: Probably a Vodka Pineapple. A holiday drink!
Sarah: What's been your best holiday then?
Carolynne: Well me and my friend Jessica go on a girls holiday every year. (laughing) We go to the really scabby places! Every year we don't tell anyone where, we just go! We just have a crazy week. Nobody bothers us, we don't take our phones with us.
Sarah: You just have fun!
Carolynne: Yeah! We just went to Majorca. Had a great time. I also love family holidays
Sarah: Do you still go away with your family or did you stop at a certain age?
Carolynne: I'm actually going on a family holiday this year, I like spending time with them. My sister, I'm really close to, she is 20 this year so its cool.

Sarah: You know about David Blaine in that box?
Carolynne: Yeah I saw him today actually
Sarah: What dya think about that?
Carolynne: What a daft bugger! (laughs) Why would you do that for? What a nutter
Sarah: Someone asked me who you think should have been in the box instead of in the Academy?
Carolynne: Peter!! It would have kept him out of blimmin trouble!

Sarah: Have you spoken to many of the students?
Carolynne: I have yeah, they are all cool . Paris stayed over at my flatmates house last night. Not with me! (laugh) Coz we went out for dinner after the studio. I've seen Alistair quite a bit, Louise, Alex. I've spoke to Pete but I haven't seen him because I don't want people to think I'm meeting up with him, coz it's not like that between me and Pete.
Sarah: That must be annoying not being able to meet him without people thinking something is going on!
Carolynne: Yeah it is! Especially this week, in OK mag they made it out like I really wanted to be with Pete and that's just not true! I especially was never torn apart by him being with his girlfriend! That's soo not true. Even if I thought it I wouldn't go saying it.
Sarah: They just twist things so much don't they?
Carolynne: Yeah! And in Closer mag Emma slagged me off. But they aren't together anymore….so….. Whatever!!

Sarah: Some people are worried you have fallen out with Alex because you aren't going to move in together…..?
Carolynne: Aww we definitely haven't fallen out. I spoke to her today and I miss her like mad and love her to bits! Just coz we aren't living together doesn't mean we've fallen out…… it's cool though.

(We start talking bout mobile phones)

Sarah: Bet you're glad to get your's back aren't you??
Carolynne: Oh god yeah!! I'm the text queen I am!!

Sarah: Have you got a message for the fans on the message board?
Carolynne: Yes!! Tell them thanks sooo much for all your support it means the absolute world to me, it really does. Also I promise I will try and log on as much as I can, I'm really pants with computers!
Sarah: You've not signed up yet have you?
Carolynne: No but I will do. I've visited the board, I just haven't had time to sign up yet, but I definitely definitely will do! I'll make sure I read more of the messages on there!

(We continued chatting for a while then Carolynne has to go coz her battery on her phone is running out)

Carolynne: I will call you tommorow though and finish off the interview. I didn't want my battery to cut out as we were talking! Ok sweetheart you take care speak to you tommorow!

And that's roughly where it ended! Phew! Did that take me ages to type or what? Lol. And that was the edited version!! I will type up our next convo later on today!!
