Carolynne Good's Christmas Party. 16th December 2003

Time: 9pm - 2am.
Location: Birdcage club in Leeds.

I was lucky enough to be invited by Carolynne to her Christmas party.
Now, I was so happy about this that I was determind to go, even if it was in Leeds, and I'm down in Essex. What a lot of you don't know is that I am ill with M.E, I never really go out anywhere due to being ill so this was a big thing to attempt to do! But I made myself go coz I just couldn't turn this offer down!

So my friend Steven and I drove up to Leeds on the day of the party and checked in to a hotel nearby, which luckily was just around the corner from the Birdcage club where the party was being held. Carolynne had hired the club for the night, she chose to hold the party there because as most of you know she used to work there as a dancer.

Anyway we arrived at the club as soon as it opened at 9pm. It was a bit different to normal clubs, it has an area for dancing or course and a couple of bars, then there was a little area with tables and chairs which were in front of a small stage. We were lucky to get a table right in front of the stage! Well the music was playing for about 30 minutes but we stayed at the table as we weren't sure when Caz was going to arrive on stage. Anyway, I spotted Caz and Paris standing a little way away from us, they both looked great, like real "popstars". Carolynne had a black top/jacket on and a very short black skirt and long boots on. She had her hair tied up tightly into a ponytail. She looked great as always! Paris looked gorgeous in a black open shirt and trousers. I decided not to go up to them, but to wait for a while.
Anyway a few minutes later I looked around and saw Caz standing near me, she looked at me and then it registered to her who I was (she has seen my picture in the newspaper article which was in the Yorkshire post ages ago. God knows how she remembers what I looked like! Lol) She grinned and was like "oooh hiya!!" she came over to us and gave me a kiss and chatted for a while, she said I looked nice, I told her she did as well (she said she had just quickly thrown an outfit on. Which definitely didn't look the case to me! Lol) and I told her I had a card and present for her, she said she would come over a bit later and have a drink with us. The music was SO loud that you had to shout in each others ears to hear anything at all! By now there were over a 100 people there, I reckon in the end there were a couple of hundred at least!

The birdcage is a club where Drag Queens perform. The main star of the shows there came on stage. He, or should that be she? Anyway "she" came on stage and told a load of very funny but very rude jokes about Carolynne, I really cannot tell you any of them, they are too rude for the site!! The only clean joke was that "she" thanked all Carolynne's ex boyfriends for coming along otherwise the club would have been empty lol.

Well Carolynne finally appeared on stage a few mins after that. She talked for a minute saying she couldn't believe all the people that had turned up, and that she was holding this party as a thank you to everyone there who has supported her. She was sooo nervous and said it made her more nervous singing in front of all the people she knows than a huge crowd of people that she doesn't know! Caz started of by singing "Underneath your clothes". She says that was her fave song on the show to perform. I totally agree with her! Hearing her sing in person was amazing, her voice is unbelievable!  It really is quite different to hearing her sing on the tv. She sang three more songs (now I'm not sure if she sang these 3 in this "set" - she came back on stage later to sing more, but anyway sorry if I'm wrong Caz!) She sang a new song called "Stretch". Now if I remember correctly this was a REALLY rocky song! Much more rocky than her other songs she has written that we heard on Fame Academy. Great song though! She sang "Insane" which we all know and love, hearing her sing it live was great, I really hope this gets released as a single! Another song she sang in was "Headspin" which she only wrote a few weeks ago. This again was a good song!
Carolynne then left the stage and introduced Paris on to the stage. She said Paris is her "favourite" and that she should have snogged him instead of Peter! Haha. I have to state though that Carolynne insists they aren't a couple! She then went and spoke to lots of her family and friends. Paris then came on stage and sung two of his own songs. Because I was sat on one of the tables at the front of the stage he sang to me twice during his songs! It was really funny, you don't know what to do but grin when he does that! Lol. He is a great performer though and knows how to get the attention of the girls! He is v.good looking in the flesh so to speak! Lol.

Carolynne's uncle came up to me and recognised me from my picture, he said he loved the site etc. Joy, Carolynne's mum also knew me and sat down and had a chat with us for a while. She is lovely just like Carolynne! A bit later on Alice, Caz's flatmate introduced herself to me and also to Gemma, one of Caz's friends. I spoke to Alice for a while, she seemed really nice, she was shocked how far I'd travelled and said I should go back home on the train with them! But obviously my friend Steven had driven us there so we couldn't get the train - which was a bummer! Lol.
By now I was well surprised but flattered at how all these people remembered me from one picture ages ago!

I went up to Carolynne who was nearby and had a photo taken with her, so did Steven. We spoke for a second and she said she would see us after her next performance. Carolynne also introduced me to her best friend Jessica.
Carolynne came back on stage and said she would like to thank her family and friends for the support and she then pointed to me and said something along the lines of "I'd like to thank Sarah who makes my website. It's a great site and it's called Carolynnegoodonline so get on there!" I was well chuffed she chose to thank me on stage out of all the people there!
She sang "True Colours". She then started to say what song she was singing next but she couldn't remember what one it was lol. She had a few drinks before coming on stage so she was a bit tipsy! That was very funny, but in the end she remembered in the song to sing. She sang a song called "That's why we don't speak anymore" that she had written in Sweden. She said "you can tell I was very angry when I wrote that! And you all know who that was about!"
Now this was a great rocky/pop song. I've only heard it once but the chorus has stayed in my brain coz it is so catchy!! There was another song Carolynne sang but I cannot remember then name of it for the moment, that sounds really bad but it was hard to remember all the songs as I didn't write them down! But every song Caz sung was great, and I'm not just saying that!
The last song Carolynne sang was a beautiful song called "You're too good for me" I totally loved this song! It was slower than her other songs, and more guitar pop than rock. Definitely my favourite out of all the new songs she sung! It was really touching! Good contender for first single!
It's made me wanna hear the album even more now! We will have to wait till sometime near the summer for it! But going by the songs I've heard it will be totally worth the wait!!

Well it was about one o'clock in the morning when Carolynne came off stage for the last time. A few people had started to leave after that and Steven and myself decided we had better be going soon coz we had to leave early in the morning! We went and found Caz who was at the bar (of course! Lol. Only teasing ya Caz!)
She asked me how I was and if I've enjoyed it. We got a couple more pictures with her and I gave her a bag with the card with all the messages from her fans on the message board and a present. She asked if I wanted her to open it now but I said that it was ok to open it another time. I knew that would easier for her as it was really packed in there and she had to speak to lots of people. Anyway she hugged me goodbye and said it was great to meet me etc.
I went and said goodbye to Joy. I cant believe I didn't meet Caz's dad Mick! (Mick, I'm really sorry I didn't come up to you.) I spotted Mick once but he was chatting to someone so I thought I'd wait till later, then later on I couldn't find him! Lol. So hopefully I'll meet ya another time Mick!

Well it was a wicked party and It was brilliant to finally meet Carolynne and some of her friends and family. I had a great time, so thanks to all of them!! Carolynne said she would let me know once she has opened the card with all your msgs in!!

I took quite a few pictures which looked okay, it wasn't an ideal setting to take pictures in (a darkish club!) but hopefully some will look ok. I cant get my digital camera to work on my PC at the moment, but as soon as I do I will post all the pictures up on here!! I also took some video clips on the camera, I will try and load them up as well.

Woah, I cant believe I have written all that! Sorry if it was boring to read!

Again thanks Caz for a great party! Look forward to seeing ya again!
Joy- you were lovely, great to meet you!  I got home okay as you may have gathered incase Caz didn't pass on the msg to you!
