Tuesday 16 September15:09 Student interview: Carolynne

Who'd have thought Caz could get mistaken for a pie seller, or that she's only had two baths since she's been in The Academy? We caught up with the funny gal to find out why...

How was Saturday night?

It was good but I was disappointed to be in the bottom three. I saw it coming. I'm grateful that I'm still here, definitely. I didn't think it was my best performance. I'm an emotional singer and I didn't feel that much emotion and I was nervous about singing with Daniel Bedingfield.

What was that like?

It was really good fun. He really inspired me but I was quite uptight about it and didn't want to disappoint him. I really wanted to do the song justice and hold my own ground and not let it be like 'Jim'll-fix-it' - Carolynne sings with Daniel Bedingfield! He's a real perfectionist: a guy who knows what he wants. People might take that the wrong way but he's a really cool guy.

What did you learn from working with him? (Michael, Birmingham)

I learned that you need to speak up; you have to say what you mean and not be bothered about what people might think. You've got to be a bit more pushy or people walk all over you. There's going to be people who think you're a diva anyway. But it's not like that; it's just about getting what you want.

Were you surprised Paris went and what's The Academy like without him?

Totally. I miss him so much. Him and Alex were the closest people in here to me. He used to sleep in our room!

Tell us about The Italian Job premiere.

It was wicked. The film was excellent and it was good to get out again. It was a bit surreal though. James was cool. He didn't whinge so that was a first! He quite surprised himself! We saw Jay Kay, Chris Eubank, Linford Christie.

If you could be anyone else in the house, who would you be?
(Sabreena, Birmingham)

[Long pause] I'd probably be Peter because I'd love to know what goes on inside that head. I have no idea!

Do you think there's a North/South divide when it comes to new artists getting noticed? (Michael, Burnley)

I've never thought about that before. I can't phone anybody [in the music industry] because [of my Northern accent] they think I'm trying to sell them pies or something! 'No thanks, we don't want any pies today!' They also assume that because I'm a Northerner I'm quite fiery and difficult to handle. People think I'm going to come into their office and go 'ROAAAAR'! [Laughs]

What's your beauty regime and do you have any beauty tips!

I've really let myself go in here, I feel like I need a really good bath! I can't have a proper one - I've had two since I've been here! - because I'm trying to hide from the cameras and the shower's tiny. I have to do this (raises leg really high) to shave my legs. I feel like a total mess, I sweat so much in Kevin's dance classes I've got loads of spots too. Um, beauty tip? Moisturise... I always moisturise!
